For our 5th year anniversary, Brian and I went to Hawaii for a week. We stayed in Wakiki on the island of Oahu. While planning for the trip, we knew that we wanted to go somewhere relatively cheap and Oahu was the least expensive compared to the other islands ie. Maui. Although we would have loved to visit Maui since it is a nature lover's paradise, Oahu was nonetheless beautiful and relaxing. Public transportation was a plus since we were both under 25 and we knew that if we went to the other islands, we needed to rent a car. We learned a lot about the island ie. Jurassic Park 1 and 3, 50 First Dates, Lost, and Elvis Prestley's Hawaii movies were shot in the valley of Oahu, tourism is number 1 money-making business, indigenous fruits are not many (pineapple is NOT indigenous as ppl think it is - only coconut is), Hawaii was formed from lava erupting from many volcanoes, and many more!
Oahu has lots of activities for us tourists. We jet-skiied in the Pacific ocean, played volleyball on the largest sandbar (beach in the middle of the sea) in the United States, snorkeled along the coral reefs, went to a laua and hulu-ed in front of a ga-zillion people (I have a certificate to prove that I took lessons in hulu!), went to the infamous Wakiki Beach (it's man-made!), hiked in a rain forest, biked downhill a mountain, and best of all we went to the ORGINAL Roy's Restaurant. The fish we ordered were soo yummy and u guys know I hate fish.
